$25,000 New Floor Has
Gymnasts Springing in the Air!
Smiths Falls – “Spring” arrived early for
members of the Smiths Falls Gym Stars Gymnastics Club as they unveiled
a new
and improved spring floor, made possible by a $25,000 grant from the
Ontario
Trillium Foundation. Donna Davidson, the
Chair of the Foundation’s local Grant Review Team and Jay Brennan, MPP
Norm
Sterling’s Constituency Assistant, presented the Club’s Amy Callan with
a
commemorative plaque.
“This is
another example of how the Ontario Trillium
Foundation contributes to our communities,” said Norm Sterling MPP for
Lanark-Carleton. “I am especially pleased to see this grant awarded to
a group
that provides children the opportunity to participate in a terrific
sport.”
At the ribbon-cutting
ceremony and subsequent gymnastics
demonstration, the Acting Mayor for Smiths Falls, Gerry Huddleston,
offered his
congratulations on behalf of the community to the local gymnastics club.
“We have used this grant to
purchase a new spring floor that
will allow us to provide a complete training facility for the town and
area’s
future gymnastics stars,” said Head Coach Amy Callan. “We are thankful
for the
Ontario Trillium Foundation’s commitment to sports and recreation in
our
community.”
“We love the new floor! It
really helps us practice our
tumbling lines,” said 13-year old Megan Peterson, one of the 24 Gym
Stars who
danced and tumbled during the thrilling 10-minute spring floor
demonstration.
